Preventing Pressure Ulceration
Tuesday 2nd March 2010
10am - 1pm
Pressure ulcers are a high risk for patients and clients with activity or mobility issues. They can cause symptoms from discomfort to significant pain leading at the extreme end to the need for amputation. Most importantly they are easily prevented if all members of the health and social care team have the knowledge to do so.
Participants will get a chance to learn about
• Observation and appropriate documentation of wounds/pressure ulcers
• Understand intrinsic and extrinsic risk factors
• Prevention of pressure damage
• Holistic and practical management of pressure ulcers
This course is open to any health care professional member and is particularly relevant for home care workers, care assistants in acute and residential settings.
Wound Care for Nurses
Fri 5th March 2010
10am - 1pm
This workshop is targeted at nurses and student nurses and will take participants through the key principals and practicalities of wound care.
A chance to explore issues such as
• General principals
• Wound assessment and management
• VAC therapy
• Management of wound infection
• Pressure ulceration
Both workshops will be delivered by Jennifer Mullan, Altnagelvin, who is a member of the Tissue Viability Nurse’s Network. The workshops will take place in our North West office in Clarendon St and are free to UNISON members.
