Queens University has been commissioned by the DHSPSS to provide both adult and learning disability nurse training places for February 2010. Some Trusts have already set in place a recruitment process.

These places are available to HCAs and Nursing Auxiliaries already working in Health Trusts and allow people to complete their qualification while working, similar to the Open University programme.

Each Trust which takes places wil hold an internal trawl and those selected will go forward for interview with Queens.

Belfast Trust is taking 3 adult and 3 learning disability places. Southern Trust is taking 3 learning disability places (open to those working in mental health and disability directorates only) and is considering taking some adult places
Northern Trust is not taking any places Western Trust is not taking any places

We are particularly keen to promote the learning disability places as there was poor take up the last time round. The minimum requirement for entry will be NVQ 3 plus GCSE/OLevel Maths (A-C), Queens will not accept the Essential Skills Numeracy qualification. An access qualification should also meet the maths criteria.

Queens will be holding an information session for managers and potential applicants on Thurs 8th Oct from 2 - 4pm. If you would like to attend forward your name and email to c.a.crawford@qub.ac.uk
