All five Trusts are currently offering workbased adult and/or learning disability places which will be delivered by Queens University. This workbased route is targeted at health care assistants who will be seconded to nurse training over four years for a minimum of 20 hours per week and will maintain their HCA salary. This new learning disability route was commissioned following successful lobbying by UNISON.
Please note that QUB criteria differs from the Open University criteria. The course will commence in February 2009.
Criteria
Permission from your line manager
Been a HCA for at least two years
NVQ 3 or equivalent academic qualification
GCSE Maths & English A-C (will not accept essential skills numeracy)
Evidence of higher level study in the last five years
You must be able to provide original certificates to verify academic qualifications
Those meeting the criteria will be selected for internal interview. Some Trusts are carrying out an internal trawl and those selected at that point will go forward for interviews with Queens. There is a general timetable, however internal trawls dates may vary.
