This session will give you an opportunity to develop sensitivity and knowledge of the experiences and needs of lesbian, gay, bisexual and or transgender young people. The workshop will explore the particular needs of young people around sexual and/or gender identity. It is targeted at any member working with young people, but open to all. It takes place on Wednesday January 30th from 10am to 4pm
This session will give you an opportunity to develop sensitivity and knowledge of the experiences and needs of lesbian, gay, bisexual and or transgender young people. The programme will provide an overview of statistics, relevant legislation, and the process by which young people recognise and come to understand their sexual orientation and gender identity.
As a group you will explore how myths and stereotypes surrounding sexual orientation and gender identity, and the use of language can impact on a young person’s ability to successfully negotiate their way through this challenging phase of their life. You will then be given an opportunity to reflect on your professional practice, considering how you can best contribute to the positive well-being of young people who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual and or transgender.“
It will be delivered by Etain O’Kane from the Shout Project.
