Organising Stewards Course in Derry - 8 to 10 Oct

30 Sep 2007

This course will equip you with the knowledge and skills required to be a UNISON steward. It will enable and empower you to participate in your branch and be recognised by management as a union steward. UNISON have negotiated with your employer to facilitate your release to attend this training and become a fully accredited steward. This course takes place from Mon 8 - Wed 10 October

How do you become a UNISON steward? You need to get five colleagues to nominate you as the UNISON steward for that area. Becoming a steward involves sharing information with members, supporting members with issues with management, giving advice and guidance to members about workplace issues, encouraging members to participate on courses and encouraging staff to join UNISON to increase our strength and negotiating power. You are expected to attend branch meetings so you can raise issues which you have identified and bring information back to members. Your employer will give you release to attend meetings and deal with workplace issues.
