UNISON is recruiting participants for the Open University K100 Understanding Health & Social Care and Essential Skills English and Maths courses in Belfast City Hospital. Information sessions will take place on Monday 21st and Wednesday 23rd May. The courses will run start in September.

The K100 is a 60 point Open University course, which is a module on the OU Pre-reg nursing diploma, OU Social Work degree and BA in Health & Social Studies. It is also a stand alone certificate which provides underpinning knowledge for NVQ Level 3 and 4. You can get more information on the course here.

Essential Skills English and Maths courses are aimed at people who do not already have a GCSE/O’Level (A - C grade) in English or Maths. The English course covers topics such as constructing sentences, basic grammar, understanding and communicating information and report writing. The Maths course explores basic calculations such as addition, multiplication, division, but also looks at fractions, percentages and ratio. Each course lasts sixteen weeks and a Level 2 is equivalent to a GCSE/O’Level C grade.
