Workers Memorial Day - April 27th

7 Mar 2007

Workers Memorial Day takes place around the world with the slogan “Remember the Dead, Fight for the Living.” The purpose of the Day is two-fold. Firstly, to not forget about those who have died, been injured, or been made ill by their work. Secondly, it is about ensuring that this loss and suffering is used to reinvigorate the campaign for healthier and safer work; for those still at work, their families, and the children who will become tomorrows’ workers.

UNISON, the rest of the union movement, and hazards campaigners continue to demand new laws and enforcement strategies that treat deaths caused by employer recklessness or negligence far more seriously than at present.
