West Belfast and Greater Shankill Health Employment Project, of which UNISON is a partner, is running a unique pilot programme which offers health records assistant trainee posts for band 1 staff. The post will run for one year and training will be provided. All those who complete will meet the criteria to apply for band 2 admin posts throughout the Trust. »more

Belfast Health & Social Care Trust have just agreed to work in partnership with UNISON to run the Open University K101 Introduction to Health & Social Care for staff across the Trust. The course will start in September and information sessions are being held on July 21st and 22nd. The deadline for applications is Friday 8th August 2008. »more

The Dept of Health has commissioned 18 mental health nursing places from the Open University, 15 mental health places from University of Ulster and 15 adult nursing places from Queens University. Recruitment for mental health places is currently taking with a view to start in October. Queens adult places commence in February 2009 and are likely to be advertised around September. In addition they have just confirmed, thanks to UNISON's lobbying, they are going to commission a learning disability nursing workbased route through Queens. OU mental health places have now opened acrioss all Trusts. »more

This course is targeted at activists currently representing members on Fitness to Practice cases and those who wish to develop skills in this area of representation. It will focus on the NMC Codes but will be relevant to general fitness to practice cases. »more

This is a half day workshop targeted from social workers and the nursing team who work with older people. It will focus on the concept of person-centred care and the impact of the Single Assessment Process as an assessment tool. »more

This is a half day workshop which will look at case studies where care of young people has gone wrong and explore some possible ways forward, focusing on the use of power and authority, and on staff safety. »more
