Targeted at: Members in social work and youth work
Duration: 1 day
As part of UNISON’s commitment to continuing professional development we are offering this course which may be of particular interest to members working in social work or youth work settings. The workshop will explore the particular needs of young people around sexual and/or gender identity.
“This session will give you an opportunity to develop sensitivity and knowledge of the experiences and needs of lesbian, gay, bisexual and or transgender young people. The programme will provide an overview of statistics, relevant legislation, and the process by which young people recognise and come to understand their sexual orientation and gender identity.
As a group you will explore how myths and stereotypes surrounding sexual orientation and gender identity, and the use of language can impact on a young person’s ability to successfully negotiate their way through this challenging phase of their life. You will then be given an opportunity to reflect on your professional practice, considering how you can best contribute to the positive well-being of young people who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual and or transgender.“
Date: Wednesday 30th January Location: Belfast
