Return to Learn

Targeted at: Any members who have been away from study from a long time and would like to get their brain active in a fun and informal way
Duration: 3 hour sessions fortnightly over 9 months plus two residentials
Qualification: Open College Network Level 1,2 or 3

Return to Learn is a UNISON course which enables members to gain a qualification which is comparable to a GCSE English. It is also useful for members who are planning to start studying after a long time and would like some preparation. The course is run in an informal environment, in small groups with a lot of tutor support. The residentials allow participants to get to know each other and promote a positive learning environment. UNISON works with employers to enable members to attend the Return to Learn during work time.

The course covers a range of topics including:

  • learning to study effectively
  • descriptive writing and note-taking
  • researching topics
  • problem solving with numbers
  • understanding statistics
  • analysing information

The Return to Learn course provides learners with the necessary qualification to meet the criteria for application to the Open University K100 Understanding Health & Social Care course, if you do not possess NVQs or other qualifications.
