Northern Ireland has a wide range of local media. Most local towns and villages have some sort of local newspaper. As part of our communications strategy we need to make better use of this local media. This course will explore writing effective press releases, and how to establish links with local and national newspapers to enable UNISON to get its message across. The course will also look at how to give radio and television interviews.
What you and your Union can gain from the course:
• How to use local and regional press and radio to support branch and regional Campaigns
• How to write Press releases that get published
• How to conduct a great radio interview and get on local/regional radio
Key areas for you as a Learner:
• Be confident in promoting UNISON’S campaigns via the media
• Be able to highlight local issues such as cuts, closures and withdrawal of services effectively in local media
• Be confident in speaking to the media, answering questions and giving quotes
• How to communicate effectively
