UNISON has been actively campaigning for what has been dubbed “The forgotten service” – the 3000 home care workers in Northern Ireland who form a major part of the social care team. The overwhelming majority of these workers are women who work part-time and have been dedicated for many years to care for their patients. UNISON’s Charter for Home Care staff includes

• the recognition of the varied work that home carers do
• fair pay and conditions
• a high quality and well-resourced service for people who need home care
• the right to a safe working environment
• compliance with the working time regulations
• issues of lone working

This event will look at UNISON's Charter for Home Helps/Carers, getting organised for registration and expanding duties of the sector.
