UNISON and Royal Hospitals are offering a range of learning opportunities in computers, Essential Skills English and Maths and Return To Learn. You can sign up immediately and be allocated a group.
You can chose from
Essential Skills through IT - this is perfect if you don’t already have a O’Level or GCSE in English and have little or no knowledge of computers. The course is an introduction to creating documents, moving text, saving, printing, email and internet while covering basic grammar, sentence structure, writing techniques. You can achieve a Level 1 in computers and up to Level 2 in Essential Skills English (comparable to GCSE C grade)
CLAIT - This is a computer course aimed at those who have a basic knowledge of computers. You can achieve an OCR Certificate in Computer Literacy & Information Technology covering Word Processing, Spreadsheets, Internet.
European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL) - This is a computer course for those who already have a basic working knowledge of computers. The course includes Word Processing, File Management, Spreadsheets, Powerpoint, Databases. You achieve an ECDL award.
Return to Learn - This is a course developed by UNISON to support people who want to get back into study after being away from it for a long time. The course covers personal development, descriptive writing, research techniques, some IT, interview skills, expressing your points of view and coping with numbers. You can achieve an Open College Network at Level 1-3. The course is recognised for applying for the K100 Open University course to meet the criteria ‘evidence of learning as an adult’.
Essential Skills Numeracy - This course is for people who do not already possess O’Level / GCSE Maths (A-C) and would like to get a recognised maths qualification. The course is offered at five levels, so no matter what your fear around maths, there is a level for you. The course covers topics such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages, calculating area, ratios. Achieving the course at Level 2 is comparable to GCSE Maths C grade and accepted for admission to the Open University and University of Ulster Nursing programmes.
