Following a very successful group from the North & West Belfast Trust who completed the K100 course with several participants going onto to secure places on the Open University Pre-Reg Nursing diploma, UNISON is delighted to support another group for the K100 Understanding Health & Social Care course in partnership with the Trust.
UNISON will access funding for 15 members from lower income households to to do this course free of charge. The course will be open for any UNISON member to apply, but candidates must meet set criteria and get approval from their line manager. This course provides a stand alone qualification and can also potentially link into programmes in nursing, social work, health management and youth studies. It is particularly suitable for those providing front line care such as Health Care Assistants, Nursing Auxiliaries, Home Care staff, Social Work Assistants but is also of relevance to staff in administration, catering, security and technical support who wish to progress towards a third level qualification.
This course is being run in partnership with the Trust, so those selected will get time off from work to attend the tutorials and the UNISON Study Skills for K100 programme. A high level of personal commitment is required, with the Open University recommending 15 - 20 hours per week.
