The Mater Hospital Trust has a number of places on the Open University Pre-Reg Adult and Mental Health Nursing diploma course. This is a workbased course which enables participants to gain a professional nursing qualification without having to give up your job. »more

A wide range of part time courses are now available at Belfast Institute's campuses and outreach centre. Whether you want to improve your career prospectives, learn a new skill or take on a hobby there's something for you. Some courses such as Essential Skills are free, short courses can start at as little as £4 per class, with concession rates available if you are on benefits including working tax credit or over 60. »more

As part of UNISON's commitment to continuing development opportunites, we are running a series of lunchtime taster sessions based on Open University modules. Four will run in the Belfast area and are open to any UNISON member in the Mater Trust. The events are targeted at nurses, allied health staff, nursing auxiliaries/assistants, health care assistants and student nurses. »more

UNISON challenged the DHSSPS to make nurse and social work training more accessible to staff such as home care workers, care assistants, nursing auxiliaries and social work assistants.
