Information sessions on the Open University K100 course take place in Banbridge & Lurgan on Tuesday 27th of June. UNISON will access funding for 15 members from lower income households to to do this course free of charge. The course will be open for any UNISON member to apply, but candidates must meet set criteria and get approval from their line manager. »more

As part of UNISON's commitment to continuing professional development opportunites, we are running a series of lunchtime taster sessions based on Open University modules. One session entitled "Mental Health: Care and Support issues for Mental health workers" will be hosted in the Craigavon/Banbridge area. A revised date has still to be confirmed. The events are targeted at nurses, allied health staff, nursing auxiliaries/assistants, health care assistants and student nurses. »more

UNISON challenged the DHSSPS to make nurse and social work training more accessible to staff such as home care workers, care assistants, nursing auxiliaries and social work assistants. Upper Bann Institute (UBI) have just announced the release of their ‘Pre-Access Taster Programme’. Designed as a stepping stone to their ‘Access Programme’, this course will run for a total of 18 weeks – 3 hours per week and will provide instruction in a diverse range of skills. »more
