Unfortunately Causeway Trust has decided not to proceed with the Open University K100 course in October due to insufficient staff resources. UNISON hopes that the decision will be reviewed and that it may be possible to go ahead for the February 2007 course.
UNISON is disappointed that we are unable to offer members this particular programme at this time. However, this is a course which delivers most effectively for participants when run in partnership with the employer. We commend the Trust’s general commitment to promoting Essential Skills learning and would encourage anyone who does not hold a GCSE/O’Level Maths and would like to progress to a university level course such as Nursing or Social Work to sign up for the Essential Skills numeracy course. Achieving Level 2 in Numeracy is comparable to GCSE Maths for entry into university courses.
In the interim come along to our OU K100 taster session on Monday June 19th in the Multi-Disciplinary Centre, Causeway Hospital from 1 - 2pm. Also any UNISON member can apply for courses on the Open University Openings programme, which are currently available free. These courses involve no classes, with all tutor contact by email and phone. and would be undertaken in your own time. They provide a good introduction to Open University study and would be helpful for anyone considering the K100 course. Courses start in September and last for approximately four months.
