UNISON is an organising union. That means members being active and strong in the workplace, being part of the team that bargains with employers for a better deal and playing a strong role in our local communities. To do that successfully we need every one of our members to be involved in whatever way they can. Our Winning the Organised Workplace courses concentrate on building a strong active union and our courses are part of the organising package.

The purpose of this education programme is to support every member as they become involved in the area of their choice. The only thing we require from you, is that you will use the skills and knowledge gained to involve other members and to take UNISON forward.

If you want to be active in the union, but have not yet taken your first step, we urge you to apply for one of the ‘first step’ courses such as Building Confidence for Women, Return to Learn or one of the equality courses. If you have been involved in our Education Programme before you will know how much benefit you can achieve through attending and how much fun it can be. Whether its working with others in UNISON or developing your knowledge, confidence and skills, it all adds up to a great experience. Browse through our learner stories to learn more.

This programme offers you a wide range of you a wide range of different options and develops your potential to be involved in the Lifelong Learning process. It is backed up by experienced UNISON staff, and we use external tutors and specialists on a number of courses. We guarantee high standards of support and advice, representation and help, when and where you need it.

We all face serious challenges. We want decent pay and rights at work. We want better opportunities. We want employers and government to respect you as employees. We all need to learn new skills and to develop some traditional ones - recruiting, organising, bargaining, treating each other with respect, solidarity. Most importantly it requires us to work, learn and organise together in the new UNISON team if we are to achieve our ultimate goal - a more just and fair society for our members and their families.
